The focus of James M. Schoenecker’s practice is in the areas of litigation and commercial transactions. He draws on experience representing financial institutions, individuals, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations.
Mr. Schoenecker’s education includes an undergraduate degree from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts (1999), and a law degree from Columbia Law School in New York, New York (2003).
At Columbia Law School, Mr. Schoenecker was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, a Notes Editor on the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, a member of the Clinical Staff of “Columbia Law School’s Lawyering in the Digital Age Clinic;” a Senator in the Law School’s Student Senate; recipient of the CALI Award in Jurisprudence; and a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Ethics Fraternity. At Boston College, Mr. Schoenecker was graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa as a member of the Arts & Sciences Honor’s Program; receiving his Bachelor of Arts in History. In addition, he spent a year studying in Italy at L’ Universita’ di Parma and L’ Universita di Firenze per Stranieri.
Prior to Clair Law Offices, Mr. Schoenecker was an Attorney in Milwaukee at Quarles & Brady LLP, and in New York City with the firms of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP and Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP.
Mr. Schoenecker is admitted to practice in New York, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin. Mr. Schoenecker worked for the United States Department of Justice – Civil & Anti-Trust Divisions (1999-2000), and, subsequently, externed for Federal Judge David D. Dowd, Senior Justice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (2000).
As an attorney Mr. Schoenecker litigated a variety of complex cases, including: Securities Claims; Litigation and Business Regulation Practice Group; Misappropropriation of Trade Secrets; Employee Non-Competes and Confidentiality Agreements; Securities Litigation; Patent Infringment Litigation; Educational Legal Matters; Insurance Coverage Cases; S.E.C. and other Federal Agencies investigations into White Collar & Securities Compliance; Pharmaceutical Products Liability; and disputes under Wisconsin’s Limited Liability Company Act.
Mr. Schoenecker contributed to the following legal publications:
• Co-Authored, Wisconsin Federal Practice: Chapter 3 - Pleadings, State Bar of Wisconsin CLE Books (2007).
• Authored: The Legal Manual for Protecting Voter Rights 2006; 2006 Wisconsin Voters’ Bill of Rights; FAQ’s for Wisconsin Voter’s Rights Manual; and Wisconsin Voters’ Rights Guide.

Mr. Schoenecker has litigation experience both in and out of the courtroom, having drafted and argued numerous motions at every stage of litigation; in addition he has trial and appellate experience on both the State and Federal level.
